The Windmill

Review by Wheelchair Model Diaries

Myself and my partner went on a cheeky day date to The Windmill pub in Southport located on Seabank Road.

The parking on the road is pay and display, but the payment machine is right at the front of the pub, which is handy! I had my blue badge so we were able to park free of charge.

The first thing I noticed was the lovely beer garden at the front of the property, which was very spacious. There was also a big sign welcoming Dogs, and noting they are child friendly too.

I was in my wheelchair which is particularly wide, and although there was a ramp entrance, I was unable to fit through the single door due to the width of the chair. A slimmer chair would have fit no issues.

I transferred to a pub seat as the table was too low for my chair, which was no problem for me but someone else may need to ask for a different table.

The Windmill had a traditional nostalgic English pub feel, and I just loved the pictures of Southport from yesteryear proudly displayed on the walls!

The menu was as you would expect in line with traditional pub food, as well as some additional more contemporary dishes, which we couldn’t wait to try!

The pub was busy, even on a Thursday afternoon! and there was limited staff so no table service was possible. My partner ordered for us both at the bar.

I was so impressed with the proper table condiments! not a sachet in sight thankfully. The portions were very large, and excellent value for money!

There was plenty of space inside to move freely in my chair, and the disabled toilets were easy to access. They used Radar key entry, a key was easily available from the bar, although there was a notice stating the facilities were soon due for refurbishing, they were in great condition and very clean.

We happened to also notice, there was a ramp to fire escape, which was great planning

This was our first visit to The Windmill, and we will certainly be returning!

9/10 Excellent Pub with Excellent facilities
